Events by industry Tourism and leisure World tourism rose by 7 % in 2017, to 1,322M travellers, 671M of whom were Europeans, 8 % more than the previous year. The tourism sector is strategic for the Spanish economy, accounting for some 11 % of GDP. Spain received 82 million tourists (8.9 % more than in 2016) who spent 87,000 million euros, 1,061 euros on average per person. Catalonia was again the main hosting region for foreign tourists, with more than 19.1 millions, 5.5 % over the previous year. International tourism expenditure in Catalonia amounted to 19,005.5 million euros, 9 % higher than in 2016. Organised jointly with the Spanish Video Games Association The video game (AeVi), it brought together the industry’s main brands, 130 titles –including industry brought 23 new ones– and a professional area with international investors, in 99,600 million publishers and developers.
