TRADE FAIR ACTIVITY

The areas in Fira de
Barcelona experienced

the support strategy
to exhibiting companies
and productive sectors
During 2013, Fira de Barcelona fully developed
its strategy of support to exhibiting companies
and the productive sectors based on keeping the
event calendar, a commitment to internationality,
innovation and knowledge, business diversification
and a significant promotion of major international
congresses and events. Therefore, all the different
departments carried out an intense activity to
meet the objectives established by the institution.
Worthy of special mention were the efforts
made by the Commercial Area to promote
participation in the events hosted directly
by Fira, with more than 3,300 personalised
meetings with companies. Also remarkable was
the activity of the Expansion Area, responsible
for bringing in new shows, congresses and
events organised by other operators, such as
itinerant trade fairs, thus showcasing the services,
experiences and opportunities offered by the
venues and the city of Barcelona to foreign
organizers. This department was also crucial
for hosting big events in which Fira plays a key
logistic and organizational role, such as Mobile
World Congress, EIBTM and other events and
congresses (see information of pages 28 and 78).
The International Business Area carried out
an intense activity to contribute to companies
going abroad and expanding in foreign markets,
by organising replicas of Fira events in other
countries, often with the collaboration of
local operators or the participation in events
abroad. In 2013 this task materialised in a
series of participations in trade fairs in different
countries and emerging economies, as well as
in consulting services given to other operators
about the trade fair business (see information
of page 82).
Along similar lines, worthy of note were
the efforts of managers and teams in the different
events hosted by Fira de Barcelona, devoted
to bringing in as much participation as possible,
providing the best opportunities for exhibitors
and visitors, turning the events into business
areas, a space where to exchange knowledge
and a place to generate synergies. Likewise,
especially remarkable were the different
tasks carried out by the areas of Operations,
Administration and Finances; Human
Resources and Organization; Institutional Relations
and Protocol; and Communications.
