In addition to shows and events, the Fira de
Barcelona premises hosted more than 70
corporate activities by companies, public
institutions, financial entities, schools,
political parties, as well as a significant number
of advertising shootings, photo sessions and
fashion catwalks.
Sports and popular culture
Fira venues hosted again in 2013 events relating
to music, culture, sports and leisure. These are
worthy of special mention, due to the impact they
have on the citizens of Barcelona.
With regards to sporting events, some of
races scheduled in the annual Barcelona race
calendar took place in the Fira venues, such
as the Barcelona Marathon and the traditional
Jean Bouin race, as well as the vintage car
rally, Rally Costa Brava. As for the city’s popular
celebrations, worthy of note were the events
related to the Mercè festivities and the Epiphany
parade in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de
Llobregat, as well as New Year’s Eve, celebrated
for the first time in Maria Cristina Avenue,
attracting a large number of visitors and a broad
media coverage.
Fira hosts Sónar Festival
Fira de Barcelona became the global stage of
Sónar, one of the world’s leading electronic music
and multimedia art festival, which celebrated its
20th anniversary basing its daytime activities in
the Montjuïc venue for the first time and keeping
its evening programme in the Gran Via venue.
This event saw the first edition of Sónar +D, a
space gathering more than 2,500 professionals
from the creative and technological industries
coming from 1,400 companies and 50 countries.
Its purpose is to promote creativity, technology,
innovation, music and business as workshops,
interactive installations, demos and product
presentations. Mobile World Capital supported
this initiative.
Sónar Festival combines vanguard art and
experimentation with electronic music, and it has
become a global reference.
