Tattoo Expo Barcelona
Barcelona International Tattoo Convention
04-06/October
Montjuïc. 16th event (1st in Fira)
The Montjuïc venue became a great showcase
for the tattoo culture with the event of Barcelona
Tattoo Expo, one of the most important shows
for this field in Spain. In 2013, Fira de Barcelona
hosted it for the first time, after having been held
at Cotxeres de Sants and La Farga de L’Hospitalet,
a change of premises which turned this event into
the most successful one to date.
Visitors had the chance to get tattooed and
see the world’s best artists at work, including
Jack Rudy (USA), Brent McCown (New Zealand),
Ching y Yang (Taiwan), Tang Ping (China), Andrea
Afferni (Italy) or the Japanese Horitoshi I, the most
prestigious tattoo artist in his country.
In total, there were 160 participant artists from
29 countries who gave more than 1,200 tattoos
in three days.
The fair also hosted many activities related
to urban art, such as breakdance competitions,
pin-up and burlesque fashion catwalks, daily
tattoo contests, body paint and Japanese martial
arts exhibitions, Hula workshops, stands selling
crafts, fashion items and accessories, as well as
the motor exhibition «Art on wheels», featuring
customised motorbikes and vintage classic cars.
Over the last years, tattooing has extended
exponentially, due to its use by social icons,
such as singers, actors and athletes, as well as
the presence of young professionals in all the
economic sectors, including those considered
more classic until now.
