REPORT
Expominer & Colecciona Barcelona
08-10/November
Montjuïc. 35th event (Expominer) / 2nd event (Colecciona Barcelona)
Collectors and lovers of minerals, jewellery,
fossils, stamps, coins and other objects were
able to enjoy their hobbies at the simultaneous
events of Expominer, devoted to minerals, fossils
and jewellery, and Colecciona Barcelona, the
Philately, Numismatics and Collectors Exhibition,
organized by Fira de Barcelona and the Philately
and Numismatics Guild, with the cooperation of
the Spanish National Association of Philatelic and
Numismatic Businesses (ANFIL).
Both events exhibited a wide range of
collectable products: stamps, coins and notes
from different periods, medals, engravings,
champagne lids, miniatures, thimbles, old posters
and photographs, in addition to a great display
of minerals, jewellery, precious and semiprecious
stones, fossils and meteorites.
The stars of Colecciona Barcelona were
two personalised stamps and an envelope
commemorating the 100th anniversary of La
Pedrera, Antoni Gaudí’s emblematic work included
on the UNESCO World Heritage List and now
headquarters of the Fundació Catalunya-La
Pedrera, a celebration which has thus entered
the philatelic annals. A stamp and an envelope
commemorating the 25th anniversary of the
Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation were also
presented. This research centre has been working
since 1988 to find a cure for this kind of cancer.
While the commercial exhibit aimed at
fostering the sale of the objects on display, the
shows pretended to inform about the cultural
heritage associated with geology, philately and
numismatics, as well as to encourage the younger
visitors to embrace collecting as a formative
leisure activity.
