Children Festival
27/December – 04/January
Montjuïc. 50th event
On time for its Christmas appointment with
families from all over Catalonia, the Children
festival celebrated its 50th anniversary with
a special event named «The party to end all
parties». In order to offer both children and adults
a programme designed to entertain but also
to promote values such as public spiritedness,
culture, healthy eating habits and respect for
the animals and the environment, the festival
organized a hundred activities.
Among the new features was a wide
programme of concerts including artists of interest
both for the children and for their families:
Doble Pletina, Refree, Germana, Lorena Álvarez
y Candela y los Supremos, Gossos, Quart Primera,
Els Catarres, Ramón Mirabet, Andreu Rifé
y Joan Dausà.
Pet animals were one of the highlights of
the show, with the Mascot Fun Festival, a space
exhibiting all kinds of mascots, ranging from the
most traditional to the most exotic ones. Nature
and agriculture also played a relevant role, thanks
to the ecological garden where boys and girls
could become peasants for a day and learn the
importance of eating natural products.
Solidarity was also a key feature. In this
respect, the Fair contributed to the Food Bank
Foundation by collecting food destined for
children, and cooperated with the «No child
without a toy» campaign, organised by Radio
Barcelona, Barcelona City Council, Casino
l’Aliança del Poblenou and El Corte Inglés.
Established in 1963 as a charity festival by
Dalmau and Viñas, two popular radio presenters,
the show has evolved with every year to become
a true school of citizenship and a landmark for
Christmas leisure.
