30th
anniversary
The Barcelona lnternational Comic Show, one of
the most important European shows for cartoon
lovers, broke its record for participation on its 30th
anniversary. During four days, the show received
more than 100,000 visitors, who were able to see
the latest trends in the sector and enjoy several
entertainment and cultural activities.
Robots and superheroes played a relevant role in
this year’s event, which commemorated Mazinger
Z 40th anniversary with the participation of its
author, Go Nagai. Also worthy of mention was the
exhibitions “Spiderman, 50 años enredándose”,
about the origins and the evolution of Spiderman,
created in 1942, and «Robots en su tinta», based on
the relationship between comic, film and literature,
where visitors could interact with real robots.
The show brought together renowned national
and international artists, such as Milo Manara,
European comic master; Guy Delisle, creator of
Pyongyang and Burma Chronicles; Scott Snyder,
scriptwriter of the new series Batman y and Swamp
Thing; or Luis and Rómulo Royo, Juanjo Guarnido
and Paco Roca, illustrators in the magazine Cavall
Fort and the Joso school.
The show organized meetings between authors
and publishers as a way of promoting contacts and
agreements, which revealed that the world of comic
is in good creative and artistic shape. The exhibition
led to meetings between Spanish and Chinese
professionals, which confirmed the interest shown
by the Chinese market about European comics.
Some of the most popular activities were the book
signing sessions and the concerts by bands such
as Los Coronas, Teràpia de Shock, Avalanch or
Lax’n’Busto.

Cosmobelleza was one of the main meeting
points for companies and professionals from the
aesthetics and hairstyling business. The 2012
event focused on training, internationalization and
business promotion, as ways to boost the beauty
market, especially in the Euromediterranean region.
The show received more than 84,000 visitors
and hosted different events addressed to the
professionals of hairstyling, aesthetics and
wellness, including the XXVI Aesthetics Congress,
where topics such as male aesthetics were
discussed, in addition to presenting the latest
trends in silhouette shaping and various massage
techniques practised in spas.
Worthy of mention was the Aesthetics and Nails
Technical Room, with 22 manicure displays,
a very successful sector nowadays. The
“Barcelona Hair Fashion” catwalk was another
highlight of the show, presenting the latest
trends in colour tones, hairstyles and haircuts
by renowned stylists.
This catwalk also hosted the Body Make-up
Competition. On this occasion, the members of the
jury awarded young make-up artist José Luis Blasco
for his work «Katrina de fuego».
In 2012 the show recovered the traditional
Cosmobelleza Award to the Best Public Image of the
Year, which was given to television celebrity Carmen
Lomana, who participated in a talk and discussion
with professionals where she talked about her own
concept of beauty,

For the second consecutive year, Catalan crafts
were the centre of the exhibit hosted in palace
8 of the Montjuic venue under the name of
The Craftroom. Promoting craft activity and
stimulating sales, with the upcoming Christmas
season, were part of the objectives of the
organizers, the Consortium of Trade, Crafts
and Fashion of Catalonia and the Department
of Enterprise and Communications of the
Government of Catalonia.
The free-access fair presented a large area
of exhibition and sale of products from
different sectors and trades, such as fashion
accessories, jewellery, household, goods, gifts
and decoration.
In addition to Catalan artisans, other professionals
came to the fair from other regions of Spain, and
From Finland, which was guest country, and is a
reference for the quality and contemporary nature
of its crafts.
In parallel, a very attractive array of activities was
scheduled for the general public and families,
with children workshops, storytelling, trade
demonstrations, performances and audio-visual
presentations about Catalan crafts, among
others. Worthy of note were the workshops
devoted to leather crafts, marquetry, glass
engraving, graffiti and pyrography and ecological
paper jewellery.
The Futur Excel·lent space hosted 34 projects by
the students of year 2011-2012 from nine Catalan
arts and crafts schools.

The show’s
25th
anniversary
The world’s most important show for the
industry of business travel, congresses and
incentives celebrated its 25th anniversary
with its most innovative and successful event.
It received visitors from 150 countries, and
presented an offer of 3,100 destinations,
hosted travel agencies, tour operators,
convention centres, hotel chains, service
companies and event planners.
One of the most visited spaces was “Experiences
from the Future”, which hosted the latest trends
in the sector, such as virtual sales brochures
for mobile phones and tablets incorporating
augmented reality.
The 2011 event held the biggest guest purchasers
program to date, with 4,1000 international
professionals who met with exhibitors to learn about
their latest products and to decide where to hold
their next events.
For the first time, the show hosted the EIBTM Forum,
an opening conference given by Barbara Kellerman,
professor in Public Leadership from Harvard
University. Meetings were also organized to promote
networking, as well as 110 sessions to assess the
latest trends in the sector.
The show arrived in Barcelona in 2004 and has
since contributed to promote the city, Catalonia
and Spain as a destination for tourism and
business. According to the International Congress
and Convention Association, Barcelona is fifth in
the ranking of leading cities in the congresses and
conventions sector.
