A large audience, both general and professional,
visited the new edition of Barcelona Meeting Point
(BMP), a show hosting more than 265 real estate
businesses, banks and public administrations.
According to the organizers, this year’s event came
as a breath of fresh air for the sector.
BMP turned out to be the best showcase for
exhibitors to sell part of the assets in their
properties portfolios, since the show took place less
than two months before Spanish tax benefits for
purchase of real estate expired, as well as for the
participation of important international purchasers.
A total of 17 investment funds took interest in
the Spanish real estate offer. According to the
organization, the volume of business surpassed
2,500 million euros, higher than the 2011 figures.
As in previous years, BMP centred around the
International Symposium, which brought together
2,500 professionals in 21 sessions, as well as the
Professional and General Attendance Exhibitions,
which took place over the weekend.
The show hosted the third Russian Meeting Point,
which summoned a significant number of Russian
investors, and it also presented the building plan
of 70,000 new houses, and the restoration of
140,000 more, in Bogota, the capital of Colombia,
which was this year’s guest city.

boats at the Boat Parade
Featuring around 700 boats, this year’s edition of
the Barcelona International Boat Show was the most
maritime, as it concentrated its entire offer at the
Port Vell. This exceptional location was the perfect
showcase both for the water display –with boats
starting at 8 meters long– and the dry-land display,
with all kinds of nautical products and services,
ranging from electronic devices and motors to paint,
sails, trailers, fishing products, charter services or
sports harbours, as well as small boats.
Altogether, 267 companies took part, including
leading brands such as Astondoa, Bavaria, Belliure,
Beneteau, Furuno, Garmin Iberia, Green Power,
Jeanneau, Marina Estrella, Rodman Polyships, Sessa
Marine, Sunseeker, Touron, Yamaha or Zodiac.
This new show format allowed visitors to see,
touch and even test the boats at sea and the
new nautical sports products. It also made it
possible to sail into the future, since the event
adapted itself to the needs of exhibiting brands
and visitors, who responded very positively
to the change.
Once again, the Boat Show placed special
emphasis on innovation and the uses of new
technologies in the boat industry. One of this
year’s greatest successes was SmartPort, a
harbour management platform and social network
for boat owners and cruise passengers created
in Barcelona for smartphones and tablets. Also
remarkable were the wireless remote controls for
anchoring or the control levers that replace the
traditional steering wheel.
Companies also presented new ideas to cope with
the recession. For instance, new charter services,
one of the booming segments in the boat industry.
