FIRA DE BARCELONA
| REPORTS 2012
With the purpose of contributing to finding new
markets for fashion brands, the show held 141
meetings between exhibitors and purchasers and
hosted the BCN Retail Lab, a sell-out seminar that
brought together leading experts of the Spanish
fashion retail sector who analysed new consumer
patterns, the emergence of e-commerce and the
importance of retail as a tool to make the sector grow.
The show came back in July for its summer event,
characterized by the attendance of enthusiast young
audiences, more and more interested in all things
connected to the world of fashion. The 15 catwalks
by 32 brands, like Custo Barcelona, Replay or Love
Therapy, captured the attention of purchasers and
enthusiasts. Music shows played a very significant
role, featuring bands like The Human League, La
Casa Azul, La Mala Rodríguez and Stand Up Against
Heart Crime, together with DJs like Shelby Grey,
Amable, GatoTV (Tvno & DjGato) - Mash AV Show,
DJ2D2 and Miranda Makaroff.
First economic report
In the area exclusively reserved for professionals, the
exhibiting brands held more than 160 meetings with
15 international purchase groups. In parallel, the “The
Brandery Economic Report on Fashion in Spain 2012”
was presented, according to which Spanish fashion
companies are becoming stronger in international
markets, including outside the euro zone.
Lectures addressed to business owners and
retailers about new sales strategies or the evolution
of the traditional fashion shop to the pop-up store
were other aspects dealt with on seminars hosted
by the show, which also organized sessions about
summer trends for 2013 and new communication
and marketing strategies. Bloggers did not miss
the date either, and got together at “He blogs”, a
meeting hosted by Pelayo Díaz, Miranda Makaroff
and Gerard Estadella.
Other significant figures in the international fashion
industry participated in The Brandery, like Elio
Fiorucci, Italian designer and businessman, founder
of the Fiorucci brand and famed participant in Andy
Warhol’s Factory in 1970’s New York.
So that the city of Barcelona also felt fashion’s
allure, for a few days the show presented
“Remakes. When cinema met fashion”, an
exhibition by photographer Manuel Outumuro,
in Passeig de Gràcia.

Internationalization, innovation and business.
Around this three themes, Bta. 2012 showed that
the machinery and technology sector for the food
and beverage industry has been able to cope with
the recession, adjusting to the situation, promoting
R+D+I and looking for new ways to cut costs
without affecting product quality.
Once again, Bta. simultaneously hosted Hispack,
the International Packaging Exhibition, which
makes the show one of the leading business
platforms for the industries of food and beverage
and packaging in southern Europe and the
Mediterranean area. This cross-sector offer
attracted more than 35,000 visitors. With a
25% of exhibitors and an 8% of foreign visitors,
Bta. reached its goal of internationalization that
had been set as a means to contribute to the
promotion of Spanish exports.
519 exhibitors from 30 different countries
presented their most innovative techniques in
production process automation, food preservation,
packaging solutions, ingredients and additives,
and food hygiene and safety equipment. Among
the latest trends were anti-aging food antioxidants,
supplements against osteoporosis, antibacterial
bottles, accelerated dry-curing systems and natural
sweeteners such as Stevia.
Technology centres, consulting agencies, official
organisms and clusters related to the food industry
were the first ones to use the Innovation Meeting
Point. Also, the show hosted ten professional
seminars and lectures organized in collaboration
with sectorial associations and entities.

The International Caravan Trade Fair, exhibiting 361
vehicles of 200 brands, once again provided a boost
for this kind of activity not only as a way of leisure but
also as a lifestyle and, despite the complex economic
situation, it received visitors from all over Spain.
Aiming to foster sales and to reach new audiences,
the show gave visitors who purchased camping
items a free two-days stay in a campsite. The buyers
of a caravan or motor home received 6 months of
free parking at the Abrera parking lot, in Barcelona,
especially designed for this type of vehicles.
In order to reach wide audiences about the
advantages of this way of tourism, the show
designed the BCN Caravaning & Camping Live area,
where a campsite was reproduced, including various
kinds of motor homes, caravans and trailers, as well
as bungalows, mobile homes and tents.
Besides its commercial and informative aspect, the
show voiced sectorial concerns. For example, on the
XV Meeting of Camping and Caravanning Companies,
it was announced that Barcelona will soon have a
service area for motor homes, and both segments of
the industry were called for unity of action in order to
defend their vindications before the administrations.
Brands showed a higher concern about environmental
issues. Most of the motor homes on display had Euro
5 low consumption propulsion systems, which limit
CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

The Gran Via venue hosted for the second time
after 2009 the Chemspec Europe show, which
featured leading manufacturers and suppliers of fine
and speciality chemicals. By summoning more than
5,000 visitors (20% more than in the Geneva 2011
event) from 54 countries, the Barcelona event was
considered by both exhibitors and visitors as “the
best Chemspec ever”.
Professionals from around the world were able
to build a great deal of business contacts in an
environment such as Fira de Barcelona, which
attracts regions as important for their economic
dynamism as Latin America or North Africa.
Chespec Europe brought together manufacturers,
suppliers, formulators, processors and service
suppliers from 50 countries.
Once again, Chempsec played its role as a platform
for building contacts with potential customers and
displaying the latest industrial trends. In this sense,
it hosted several activities, such as lectures ad
seminars, covering fields such as biotechnology,
phytosanitary measures, cosmetics, pharmaceutics,
water treatment and health sciences, where topics
related to manufacturing and marketing processes
were discussed.
The fact that purchasers, distributors and
manufacturers met in one place helped assessing
business possibilities. As in previous events
in Barcelona, the show hosted many Spanish
companies in the chemicals sector.
