FIRA DE BARCELONA
| 2013 REPORT
As an integral part
of Fira de Barcelona,
Alimentaria Exhibitions
consolidates itself as a
major platform for the
internationalization and
the projection of the agri-
food industry
Alimentaria Exhibitions Merge
In January 2013 it became effective the
agreement whereby Fira de Barcelona acquired
from Reed Exhibitions 50% of the capital that
it had in Alimentaria Exhibitions, joint venture
that both entities had established in 2002
to organise, among other events, the Alimentaria
show. Fira and the multinational decided
to work jointly to consolidate the event’s
international projection.
As an integral part of Fira de Barcelona,
Alimentaria Exhibitions will continue to operate
as a society specialised in hosting events
related to the food sector. Besides Alimentaria,
its product portfolio include Alimentaria & Horespo
Lisboa, Alimentaria México, Alimentaria
Brasil, Bta. Barcelona Tecnologías de la
Alimentación, Seafood Expo Southern Europe
and Barcelona Degusta.
Alimentaria is a benchmark in Europe, one
of the three leading specialised trade fairs.
Alimentaria’s 20th event was held between the
end of March and the beginning of February
2014 –when this report was being written– at the
Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, regarded
as the most international, gastronomic and
innovative. There were 3,000 exhibitors and
it received more than 140,000 buyers, 30%
foreign, from 141 countries, many of which took
part in more than 10,000 business meetings.
Likewise, the presence of chefs with more than
50 Michelin starts altogether, and the introduction
of a great variety of innovative products,
consolidated the show as a major platform for the
internationalization and the projection of the agri-
food industry.
Alimentaria Exhibitions has a leading position
within the food sector in the countries were it
operates, managing more than 150,000 m
2
(rough) of exhibition area, with a significant
volume of international exhibitors and visitors from
the food industry, commerce equipment
and technology.
