A deep change in mentality. That is what it takes
in order to cope with the recession, according to
national and international experts who met at the
second event of FM&BS World Summit. Speakers
and delegates considered that extending flexible
work, fostering labour mobility, using computer
applications to work in the “digital cloud” and
promoting global service management would
increase the saving capacity of companies and
public administrations.
Global building management by specialized
companies would be another tool to reduce
costs. According to the Spanish Association
of Facility Management (IFMA España), the
government would save around 60,000 millions
each year by outsourcing the management of
their equipments.
Once again, the FM&BS World Summit informed
private company and public administration
managers about the advantages in using formulas
such as outsourcing, a tool that enables businesses
to achieve a higher degree of efficiency, by allowing
them to focus solely on their main activity.
Visitors and exhibitors expressed their satisfaction
about the event, organised in cooperation with
IFMA España in order to promote a business
method that is still very little known in our country.
In fact, in Spain only 32% companies outsource
at least on service or function. In Germany, the
percentage rises up to 70%, and in the United
Kingdom to 90%.

Fira hosted for the first time Gamelab, the leading
show in Spain about videogame and interactive
leisure. The first event hosted by the trade fair
institution was the longest and most visited of its
history. During five days, around 30,000 people
visited Gamelab, attended the lectures and had
the chance to test many of the new products most
anticipated by gamers.
The program of activities and lectures featured
names like Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of “Gran
Turismo”; Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the
“Final Fantasy” saga; Al Lowe, author of the iconic
“Leisure Suit Harry”; Xavier Carrillo, founder of
Digital Legends; and Enric Álvarez, creative director
at MercurySteam, and responsible for “Castlevania:
Lords of Shadow”.
The show also wanted to promote more
opportunities for international business by
means of the Gamelab Hub, a platform for
the internationalization of Spanish videogame
companies, which summoned more than 160
companies and scheduled more than 1,200
work meetings between them. A good example
of the growing international scope of the show
was the number of foreign companies that took
part in the initiative, three times as many as in
the previous event.
Many efforts were also put into the Gamelab
Academy, program destined to the promotion of
Spanish entrepreneurs and small companies, and
quality training for future professionals with a series
of lectures open to the public.

Internationalization, the latest consumer trends
and the future of packaging were the three pillars
around which centred Hispack 2012, a show
attracting more than 30,000 professionals from
85 countries, jointly with Bta., the show devoted
to food technology. The exhibitors came from 31
countries from around the world.
There are signs of a change of mentality among
the costumers of the packaging industry,
thanks to the rediscovery of packaging as a marketing
tool. Exhibitors confirmed that, despite the recession,
the demand is seeking for ways of innovating and
standing out. In this sense, Hispack offered ideas
and showed trends and applications for industrial and
consumer companies to optimize their resources,
cut costs, improve their products and find new
market niches through packaging. New materials,
sustainability and design will lead the way into the
future of the business.
Hispack showed again its ability to summon
visitors from diferent sectors: 74% of the main
food producers of our country; 70% of the leading
pharmaceuticals; and more than half of the
perfume and cosmetics companies.
The strategy of internationalization that Hispack
has been leading for years produced the expected
results in a moment in which exports are crucial
to the growth of the industry. The increase in the
number of visitors coming from foreign markets
engaging in promotional activities was 43% higher
than in the 2009 event. Likewise, more than
600 business meetings took place between a
hundred exhibitors and companies from Angola,
China, Iran, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine
and Uruguay. Also, 250 meetings were scheduled
between purchasers from 16 countries and
114 exhibitors.
The will of internationalization and an optimism
about the future were reflected in the Hispack
Packaging Trends barometer presented in the
show, which revealed two figures: 55,2% of the
companies in the sector are exporters and 39,1%
expected to increase their turnover in 2012.
Training activities
More than 500 speakers and 2,000 delegates
participated in the activities and sessions
scheduled. The dynamism of the debates at the
Pack Corner and the Logistic Corner met all the
expectations, covering topics like the new trends
and success stories in the field of packaging,
point-of-purchase advertising (POPA) and
intralogistics in packaging and wrapping, which
significantly increased its presence in the offer and
contents of the show.
Hispack 2012 also hosted the Líderpack Awards
for packing, packaging and POPA, which went
to 18 projects, 12 of which were selected to
represent Spain the WorldStar for Packaging World
Contest. Five Líderpack were amongst the world’s
best packing projects.
The show promoted the cultural side of packaging
and wrapping, with the TOP 10 Pack exhibition,
featuring history’s most famous packages: Coca-
Cola, Absolut Vodka, Toblerone and Chanel Nº5
were at the top of the list.
