FIRA DE BARCELONA
| REPORTS 2012
The Higher Education and Employment Week,
one of the major appointments of the educational
sector in Spain, included The Education Exhibition,
Expodidáctica and Futura. All in all, around 300
exhibitors took part in the show, which was visited
by thousands of people. This confirmed the interest
in a show that gives visitors the chance to get
acquainted with the educational system and future
jobs available after finishing Secondary School
(ESO). In the Education Exhibition, new Professional
Training degrees related with physical activities and
sports, artistic activities, sociocultural services,
image and sound, as well as university degrees
from the field of medicine, education, law and
engineering were the focus of most of the questions
from young people.
Students between 14 and 16 years old, many
of who came with their parents during the
weekend, asked for advice on how choosing
the most suitable career. There was an increase
in adult visitors interested in the personalised
advice services on how to widen their knowledge
of any subject.
The show hosted near 200 activities, including
workshops to learn about geometry with soap
bubbles and mathematics with magic tricks, and the
presentation of a survey to more than 900 teachers
about their opinion of the reality of education. The
“EspaiCiència” space was very successful, as well
as the multimedia area and the Hall of Languages,
presenting language courses abroad.
One of the most popular programs presented this
year was the School Year Abroad, which allows
students to spend one year of ESO or Bachillerato
abroad. Another important feature were the
programs that combine language learning with
leisure, volunteer work or sports.
Expodidáctica captured the attention of
professionals interested in new pedagogical
methods and didactic material for the classroom,
featuring multi-touch desks, interactive tables,
attendance controllers by facial capture, or even a
network coverage inhibitor to prevent students from
being distracted by their mobile phones in class.
Focus on jobs
The Employment Week also hosted the Futura
show, which received a large number of visitors
interested in master’s degrees and postgraduate
courses by public and private universities, training
centres, foundations and business schools.
Meanwhile, the Jobs Forum allowed companies
and qualified candidates to get in touch for
recruitment processes.
The publication Món Empresarial organized a
session about workforce integration for people 40
to 50 years old who, because of the recession,
need training to update their knowledge and be
able to find a job or change their activity. Likewise,
the show wanted to promote the entrepreneur
spirit of university students with the 3 Day Startup
Barcelona, an international event created to help
40 students to build their own technology-based
business in only three days. The International
Simulated Businesses Show also took place in
this edition.

annual events
As usual, in his spring and autumn events,
Expohogar summoned small and middle-sized
companies from all Catalonia and its area of
influence, Valencia, Balearic Islands and south of
France, to see and purchase the latest trends in
gifts, fashion jewellery and fashion accessories
and decoration.
Expohogar is one of the oldest shows in the
Barcelona trade fair calendar, and it is a
reference in the field of household products and
kitchenware; interior design and decoration,
terrace and garden; crafts, stationary, design and
trends; home textile; personal care; leather goods;
and travel goods.
In the spring event, held in January, Expohogar
was a real catalyst for the sector, where
exhibitors could close many business deals
on the first date of the season, thanks to a
remarkable offer of products, distinguished
by their quality, design, functionality and
competitive prices.
In September, when the autumn event took place,
the show was visited by several professionals who
purchase the products that they want to sell in the
Christmas campaign, which amounts to 60% of the
total annual sales in our country.
In addition, Expohogar once again became a
benchmark for fashion trends in the sector, filling
our houses and streets with colour. Cupcakes,
