Savouring Bach flower chewing gum that helps
control the emotions; beds that eliminate stress;
vibration therapy sessions with relaxation
bowls that eradicate muscle contraction; the
first natural anti-cholesterol tablet; and latest
developments in bio-electromedicine were some
of the highlights of Expo Ecosalud.
Over 500 manufacturers participated, a figure
10% higher than that of the 2009 edition.
Accounting for 30% of the total number of
exhibitors, one of the sectors best represented
was that of natural therapies, which included
latest developments in quiromassage, oste-
opathy, naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture
and energy techniques. The sectors devoted
to ecological products and dietetics and diet
supplements accounted for 60% of exhibiting
firms. Natural cosmetics, medicinal plants and
remedial herbs completed the Expo programme.
Over 31,000 visitors, 42% of whom were profes-
sionals, took an interest in the latest develop-
ments and trends in dietetics, diet supplements,
ecological products, natural therapies and
healthy alternatives with which to keep in shape.
The fair also provided the setting for a total of
almost 50 conferences, seminars and workshops
related to therapies, all open to the general
public. Prominent here was a master class on
nutritional therapies and supplements, personal
development and new technologies, one of the
main speakers being Emilio Duró, an expert on
motivation and leadership.

At its spring and autumn editions Expohogar
presented the latest trends in gift articles,
costume jewellery and fashion and decoration
accessories.
The colour white and vintage-style rustic fur-
niture were the central features of new trends
in interior decoration for the spring-summer
season. As regards accessories, Panama-
style raffia hats, denim and vaporous fabrics
with liberty and floral prints made a strong
comeback.
For its part, the autumn edition (Expohogar
Tardor) revealed the exhibitors’ ability
and tenacity when it comes to presenting
original, functional products at very
reasonable prices to adjust to consumer
demands at a time of economic recession.
Among the novelties on show were
portable photography studios, moneyboxes
that act as mini cash dispensers, and multi-
purpose scarves.
Also displayed were the latest trends in
Christmas articles, such as perfumed candles
featuring the aromas of turrón and champagne,
Nativity scenes in fishing-village settings and
even Christmas trees that release artificial snow
and incorporate canned music.
Prominent trends in the interior decor sec-
tion were style fusion, British refinement and
Romanticism. Oriental influences, such as Japa-
nese engravings or figures of Buddha, also made
their presence felt, alongside natural materials
such as wood, jute and linen. Outstanding among
clothing accessories were bags, scarves and
kerchiefs featuring animal prints.

80.000 m

the closing ceremony of the Interna-
tional Chemistry Year in Spain, seminars, B2B
rendezvous, congresses, workshops, symposi-
ums, exhibitions
The Mediterranean Applied Chemistry Con-
gress, which consisted of the simultaneous
holding of Expoquimia, Eurosurfas and Equi-
plast, was indeed one of the major industrial,
technical and economic events to take place
beside the Mediterranean. Approximately
38,000 professionals gathered at an event that
proclaimed the importance of increasing sales
and business contacts in order to reactivate
the sector.
Expoquimia became the major point of encoun-
ter between industry and science, by providing
the context for the presentation of over 200 new
technical developments as well as organis-
ing over 50 activities as part of the scientific
seminar programme, which brought together
hundreds of speakers and congress-goers from
both Spain and abroad.
In collaboration with the Spanish Chemical
Industry Business Federation (Federación
Empresarial de la Industria Química Española
- FEIQUE), Expoquimia organised a number of
trade missions: representatives of Argentinean,
Mexican and Chilean professional and business
associations attended the event to acquire both
Spanish technology and Spanish products.
In response to the needs of such a broad sector
as the chemical industry, the event provided an
inlet for new sectors with the creation of Pharma
Process, aimed at the auxiliary industry; Cos-
metic Dati, which attracted all agents involved
in cosmetic manufacture; and Food Innovation,
which displayed the numerous contributions
the chemical industry has made to food. These
three thematic areas were added to those that
were already there: Lab&Bio, devoted to firms
specialising in biotechnology, and Compositech,
devoted to new materials.
On the scientific side, Expoquimia provided
evidence, once again, of the high level of Span-
ish research, thereby obliging the Expoquimia
R+D+i Awards jury to grant it two special
mentions for the first time. These awards were
given to a new process for generating agents
against a molecule related to infections caused
by the AIDS virus and involved in the appear-
ance of cancer tumours, and a biotechnological
process by which to manufacture a molecule
that retards hunger pangs.
The closure of the commemorative events in
Spain of the International Chemistry Year, which
celebrated the centenary of Marie Curie’s having
been awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry,
endowed Expoquimia’11 with huge added value.
On the other hand, Equiplast, the International
Plastic and Rubber Fair, contributed to the plas-
tic industry’s reaching high levels of sales and
business contacts.
Finally, the latest edition of Eurosurfas, the Inter-
national Paint and Surface Treatment Fair, in
which over 150 firms participated, was attended
by numerous purchasers from associated sec-
tors, such as the motor industry.
