An irresistible meeting point for collectors,
both professional and amateur, Antiquaris
constituted a fascinating journey through 6,000
years of art history. The fair exhibited over 10,000
works of all periods and styles —medieval, clas-
sical, modern, contemporary and ethnic— , and
by artists of the stature of Picasso, Dalí, Rodin,
Sorolla, Barceló, Miró, Tàpies, Valdés, Boter,
Rusiñol, Nonell, Casas, Guinovart, San Francis,
Hernández Pijuan, Ràfols Casamada, Plensa and
Chillida, among others.
The over 25,000 visitors to the fair were given the
opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of paintings,
engravings, lithographs, drawings, sculptures,
fine jewellery, tapestries, furniture and coins to
suit all tastes and pockets. With the aim of luring
those young art lovers who seek to enter the
realm of collecting, numerous quality works were
put on sale at prices under 3,000 euros.
Outstanding among the creations exhibited,
selected by a committee of experts,were a
prehistoric image of Venus from the Cyclades in
the Aegean, several sculptures from the times
of the Roman Empire and the Persian dynasty,
Romanesque and Gothic carvings, a Buddha
from the Gandhara region, African tribal masks
and pieces by Gaspar Homar (a key figure in the
recovery of the decorative arts and of Catalan
Modernisme), as well as works by contempo-
rary artists such as Julian Opie,Marina Núñez,
Xavier Mascaró and Joan Fontcuberta.

At the Barcelona International Motor, Motorcycle,
Aviation and Classical Boat Show some 600 vehi-
cles and many other articles were exhibited, pre-
sented by a total of almost 300 exhibitors from
eight countries. The show, which has become a
benchmark of its kind in Southern Europe, was
visited by over 55,000 people.
An outstanding aspect of this edition was
involvement on the part of Seat and Nissan,
the two automobile manufacturers established
in Catalonia, who gave their support to the
vintage vehicle sector. Seat traced the firm’s
evolution in the urban vehicles segment, while
Nissan exhibited a collection of its Z-type
sports cars.
Equally important was participation by the
Mercedes-Benz Club España, which exhibited,
among other models, the tricycle with which the
German firm was launched 125 years ago. Other
gems that visitors were able to admire were the
Jaguar E-type, the BMWM3, Mustang Sedans
and the BCB microcar, designed in the early
1950s by experts at Montesa.
In the context of Acta Retro, the fiftieth
anniversary of the legendary Montesa Impala
175 motorcycle was celebrated, with a rally on
Montjuïc in which over 100 Impalas took part,
and tribute was paid to a number of leading
figures in the motor racing world, such as the
former driver and journalist Jaume Alguersu-
ari, the trainer and driver Ramón López, the
coachbuilder Pedro Serra and the photographer
Joan Aymamí.
As usual, the spare parts and accessories
market was held, together with the popular Car
Corral, where vintage vehicles were put on sale.
A further attraction was the Copa Moritz Seat
600 held in Slot, on a huge track which is a
replica of the one on Montjuïc.

Loyal to its two-yearly commitment, the Bar-
celona International Motor Show was held at a
particularly difficult time for the motor industry,
in which it nonetheless confirmed its status as
one of the leading showcases for the sector and
one of its main economic driving forces.
The great number of visitors, over 900,000 visi-
tors, and the substantial volume of sales under-
lined once more the importance of the event as
a great boost to the market. Furthermore, the
fact that the show coincided with the Spanish
Formula 1 Grand Prix, held at the Circuit of Cata-
lonia in Montmeló, again converted Barcelona
into the world motor racing capital.
Visitors were able to admire the models exhibit-
ed by the 35 brands present, including national,
European and world novelties. Outstanding in
this context were the Hyundai i40 Sedan, three
European (Audi Q3, Hyundai Elantra and Volk-
swagen Beetle) and 30 national novelties.
