Among the vehicles presented were several
models manufactured in Spain, such as the
aforementioned Audi Q3 (which will be made at
the Seat factory in Martorell), the Renault Twizy
and the Nissan NV200 Evalia.
For the first time, electric vehicles were on
display and on sale at the show. The importance
of sustainable mobility was so great that an
entire pavilion was devoted to the electric car,
in which firms were also present that develop
technologies such as recharging infrastructures
and storage systems.
The programme of activities at the show
included demonstrations of automatic braking in
the city, the traditional boxes in which to try out
vehicles of different makes, 4x4 testing tracks,
a sports vehicle meeting and the ‘País del Cava’
veteran car rally.
Likewise, the Barcelona Motor Show organised
a wide range of technical sessions, talks and
activities for professionals in the sector, among
them the 8th edition of the International Motor
Show Awards, organised jointly with the Society
of Automotive Industry Engineers.
As in previous editions, the two days prior to the
public opening of the show (May 12 and 13) were
reserved for the press and professionals, and a
new edition was held of the ‘Nit de l’Automòbil’,
the great Barcelona motor festival attended by
personalities from the worlds of politics, busi-
ness and society.
The show is supported by the two most
important Spanish automotive associations:
the Spanish Car and Lorry Manufacturers
Association (ANFAC) and the National Car,
Lorry, Bus and Motorcycle Importers Associa-
tion (ANIACAM); furthermore, it is the only
Spanish show recognised internationally by the
Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs
d'Automobiles (OICA).

In 2011 the Barcelona Boat Show held a very
special edition on the occasion of its 50th
anniversary. Despite the unfavourable economic
juncture, it contributed to boosting the com-
mercial activity of the Spanish nautical market
by promoting sales and new contacts.
As acknowledgement of the show’s work in
support of the sector and of internationalisa-
tion of the Catalan capital over all these years,
the Barcelona City Council awarded it the Gold
Medal for Sporting Merit. The anniversary was
celebrated with the publication of a book, with
an exhibition and with the issue of a commemo-
rative stamp and medal.
The event constituted Spain’s best offer in
sport and leisure sailing with 324 national
and foreign exhibitors, some at the Gran Via
precinct and the rest at the Port Vell Floating
Exhibition, where visitors could admire over
130 yachts of considerable length. Entities
such as Deutsche Bank, Banc de Sabadell,
CGMER and the Banque Populaire Côte D’Azur
offered visitors financial products designed
specifically to facilitate purchase of boats and
mooring berths.
With a total of over 108,000 visitors, the show
presented the latest trends in the nautical
industry, which is becoming increasingly com-
mitted to ecology and functionalism. Further-
more, around 200 activities were organised, all
of which were highly popular among visitors.
Prominent here was a grand regatta off the
Barcelona coast, which brought together 700
boats and one thousand or so national and
international sailors. The city became the Euro-
pean sailing capital and a centre of attention
for both professionals and amateurs alike, who
were able to admire this uncommon spectacle
organised in collaboration with the Catalan
Sailing Federation and a host of firms, nautical
entities and institutions.
Other events held included virtual regattas, bap-
tisms at sea, cruise draws, regatta presentations
and seminars, tugging demonstrations, fishing
